Your driveway won’t develop those annoying dips and cracks that cheaper installations always seem to get. The water actually drains where it’s supposed to go instead of pooling against your foundation.

You get pavers that stay level and tight, even after North Carolina’s freeze-thaw cycles and heavy rains. No more tripping hazards or embarrassing sunken spots when guests come over.

The colors stay vibrant and the surface stays smooth because we use the right materials and install them correctly the first time. Your property value goes up, and you stop worrying about expensive repairs down the road.

How We Handle Your Project

First, we assess your site conditions, discuss your vision, and provide a detailed estimate. No surprises or change orders later – you know exactly what you’re getting and what it costs.

Next comes proper excavation and base preparation. This is where most problems start with other contractors, so we take our time here. We excavate to the right depth, install proper drainage if needed, and create a solid, level base with the correct materials.

Then we install your pavers according to manufacturer specifications, ensuring proper spacing, alignment, and edge restraints. We finish with joint sand and compaction, leaving you with a surface that’s ready to use and built to last.

How long do professionally installed pavers typically last?

Quality pavers installed with proper base preparation typically last 25-30 years or more with minimal maintenance. The key is the installation process – pavers themselves are incredibly durable, but they’re only as good as the foundation underneath them. When we excavate to the proper depth, install adequate base material, and ensure proper drainage, your pavers will handle freeze-thaw cycles, heavy traffic, and weather without shifting or sinking. Most issues you see with paver installations come from shortcuts during the base preparation phase, not the pavers themselves.
The main difference is in base preparation and materials. Cheaper contractors often skip proper excavation depth, use inadequate base materials, or rush the compaction process. We excavate to manufacturer specifications (usually 6-8 inches for driveways, 4-6 inches for patios), use the right base materials, and compact in lifts to create a stable foundation. We also install proper edge restraints and use quality joint sand. These steps take more time and cost more upfront, but they prevent the settling, shifting, and drainage problems that require expensive repairs later.
Drainage is critical in our area because of clay soil conditions. We evaluate your site’s natural drainage patterns and grade during our initial assessment. If needed, we install French drains, adjust the base grade, or add drainage pipes before installing pavers. The goal is to move water away from your foundation and prevent it from pooling on the paver surface. We also ensure proper slope in the final installation – typically 1/4 inch per foot away from structures. Poor drainage is one of the main causes of paver failure, so we address it upfront rather than hoping it won’t be a problem.
It depends on the condition of your existing concrete. If the concrete is level, structurally sound, and has proper drainage, we can sometimes install pavers over it using a sand-set method. However, if there are cracks, settling, or drainage issues with the existing concrete, those problems will transfer to your new pavers. In most cases, we recommend removing the old concrete and starting with a proper base. This costs more initially but gives you a much better long-term result. We’ll assess your specific situation and give you honest recommendations about what will work best for your property.
Properly installed pavers require minimal maintenance. You’ll need to sweep them regularly and rinse off any stains promptly. Every 2-3 years, you may need to add joint sand if some has washed out, and you might want to apply a sealer to enhance color and protect against stains, though sealing isn’t required for function. Weeds can occasionally grow in joints, but this is easily handled with standard weed killer or pulling by hand. If a paver gets damaged, individual pieces can be replaced without disturbing the surrounding area. Overall, pavers require much less maintenance than concrete or asphalt surfaces.
Most residential paver projects take 3-7 days depending on size and complexity. A standard driveway usually takes 4-5 days, while a patio might be completed in 2-3 days. Larger or more complex projects with multiple areas, retaining walls, or drainage work can take 1-2 weeks. Weather can affect timing, especially during excavation and base preparation phases. We provide realistic timelines upfront and keep you updated if conditions cause any delays. We’d rather take the time to do it right than rush and create problems you’ll have to deal with later.
